About Hector Console

Hector Console is the world's leading tango double bassist. He is especially known for his frequent collaborations with "Nuevo Tango" path-breaker Astor Piazzolla in concert and on recordings. The great growth of interest in Piazzolla's music in the 1990s and beyond extended into classical music, as classical musicians from Gidon Kremer to Daniel Barenboim took up his greatest compositions. This has led to Console making several recordings on classical labels with such artists, both of Piazzolla's music and that of other tanguistos. Console's recorded performances with special interest to classical listeners include his Astor Piazzolla recording with Kremer and the Kremerata Baltica ensemble, "Brazilian Rhapsody" with Barenboim, the "Live at the BBC 1989" concert (both Warner-Teldec). Piazzolla's "The Central Park Concert" (Chesky), "The Vienna Concert," "The New Tango," the Concierto de Nacar and Concierto para Quinteto performances with Piazzolla, and "Astor Piazzolla Reunion."
