Grupo Um

About Grupo Um

Grupo Um were a Brazilian jazz fusion trio who existed between 1975 and 1983. Composed of brothers Lelo Nazario on keyboards, drummer Ze Eduardo Nazario, and bassist Zeca Assumpção, the band formed in 1975 while serving as Hermeto Pascoal's rhythm section. Under his tutelage and with his encouragement they discovered their potential for composition, arrangement, and improvisation, and branched out. Their self-recorded debut album went unreleased until 2023, but its bootlegs influenced many homegrown acts including Azymuth. 1979's Marcha Sobre A Cidade, 1981's Reflexões Sobre A Crise Do Desejo, and 1983's wildly experimental A Flor De Plastico Incinerada, all won acclaim.
