Billy Higgins

About Billy Higgins

While Billy Higgins (1936-2001) only released a handful of albums under his own leadership during his lifetime, he was among the most prolific and best-loved jazz drummers ever to play the music. Dynamic, inventive, and economical, Higgins’ approach allowed him to fit and excel in the contexts of free (Ornette Coleman), hard bop (Lee Morgan), straight-ahead (Jimmy Raney), and even folk (Sandy Bull).
