About 10cc
The Manchester art-pop quartet 10cc are best remembered for the gaseous vocal harmonies in the atmospheric 1975 gem “I’m Not In Love”. Graham Gouldman had ascended through the ranks of rock ’n’ roll in the wake of the British Invasion, writing hits for The Yardbirds, The Hollies and others, and united with the other members of the future 10cc—Eric Stewart, Kevin Godley and Lol Creme—when they were working as a session team. The band broke through on their own with the tuneful shuffle “Donna” in 1972 and subsequently scored a collection of Top 10 albums and singles. The enduring 1975 album The Original Soundtrack was bolstered by the hits “I’m Not In Love” and “Life Is a Minestrone” but also incorporated experimental prog-rock compositions. Godley and Creme went solo in the late ’70s, with Stewart and Gouldman finding continued success under the 10cc name for the rest of the decade. In the early ’90s, the original lineup joined forces again before dispersing into 10cc-adjacent projects in the following decades.
