Celtic Essentials

The wistful songs and dulcet melodies of Celtic music emerged centuries ago in Ireland and the British Isles. Powerhouse bands like The Chieftains, The Bothy Band and De Dannan introduced a new generation to the sound's danceable jigs and reels during the folk revival of the ‘60s and '70s. Vocal virtuosos like Dolores Keane and Mary Black likewise revived the often-tragic stories of love and war that lend the genre dramatic immediacy. No longer trapped in amber, Celtic music went international when bands like Solas and Clannad began importing rock, jazz, R&B and other fusion flavours into the mix.
